On June 12, 2010 Procurity's own “Team Tatas” walked along side 750 others and completed the 3rd annualChallenge for Life 20 km walk in support of CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. The team consisted of five eager Procurity Inc. staff members: (pictured above, from left) Katherine Podgurny, Amber Tait, Ashley Rivers, Nathalie Veillette and Neena Oberoi. All were willing to give up their time for weekly training walks, blisters and muscle pain in order to raise money and awareness for Cancer. From January right up until the walk on the 12th, the ladies worked hard to raise money for CancerCare. They held a Bud Spud and Steak in April which was a huge success. Over 300 people attended and with the support and contribution from many colleagues, friends, and family over $8000.00 was raised at the event. Donations from a variety of supportive people helped bring the teams total to $18265.00 raised for Challenge for Life.Challenge for Life raised over $1 Million altogether.
CancerCare Manitoba works hard to ensure not only the patient living with cancer is taken care of but their family as well. The funds raised at the walk immediately were put to use at CancerCare Manitoba. Patient care and support, education, early detection initiatives, clinical trials, counseling for patients and their families, as well as volunteer services directly felt the results of the funding from the walk. The walk was successful in generating awareness for the disease which has become so common. While each member of “Team Tatas” had their own reason for walking, gathering as a community with over 750 people, hearing their stories was both emotional and inspiring.
